English Spellings can be tough for some students to learn. Many methods are being used by parents and teachers to help with learning of spellings.Flashcards both offline and online are being used.Whatever be the subject and even professional education like medical or management, demands that spellings be perfect.
Dan Hite of Tedco Software wrote to me about his latest spelling software that he has developed and is also using for his own children to learn their spellings. The program allows you to set up the students' spelling lists in the software and then students practice their words with SpellQuizzer

HOW TO COPE WITH EXAMS?
Exams being round the corner for most,I see many mothers more concerned about their children's performances than the children themselves. The happy go lucky attitude of the students can sometimes be misconstrued as "careless","not bothered",,etc.,...while the parents feel that they have done all they can in putting their children in good schools and colleges and also got them the best home tutor around.Tutorials obviously flourish because of the attitude of parents that they did not get the best and so they want their children to be given the best in education and everything else. They fail to understand why the marks are still not up to the mark.In the face of competition, every teacher and parent emphasize the need to score a 100%,not even 99.9%.
So,what does the harassed student do?Parents and teachers have the eternal bad habit of comparing a student with his siblings or peers saying,"Why can't you score like that?"
Every student is unique! The ability to grasp quickly,or understanding the concepts of math and science is different for everyone.A variety of factors come into play for this, most important among these being the genes inherited and proper nutrition in addition to a positive and healthy environment in which to study.
Parents and students have many questions regarding exams, revision, and methods of study. Many valuable suggestions in the form of videos are found here on videojug!

POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS Vs SLIDECASTS
PowerPoint presentations are an integral part of the boardroom as well as the classroom in today's scenario. There are several favourite ways of creating and sharing online. Some swear by slideboom, slideshare. Some like to convert their ppt's to video using Windows Moviemaker, and still others love the features of animoto which takes less time and almost no work. Some still use MS PowerPoint while others swear by Google Docs.To each his own,but my favourite is creating a slidecast on slideshare.Just upload your presentation and add either music or lend your voice as you explain.
Put plainly it is Slideshare+Podcast=Slidecast. Here is how you do it.

HOW TO CREATE AN ONLINE GRADE BOOK FOR FREE
Teachers need to grade their students and it is certainly easier if you learn to use spreadsheets.Google docs can be utilized to create a word document,a presentation,a PDF file or a spreadsheet.Educators find that it is convenient to store online and share with colleagues or students.Their work becomes simpler now with Google Docs than having to share as an attachment or uploading files. It is automated and of course,it is yours for FREE.
Having a grade book for every class is important and so,here is an article by Chuck on hubpages which I think every teacher can use.He shows you how to create and automate a grade book using the spreadsheet feature on Google docs with relevant pictures so it is easy to understand.

THINKQUEST LIBRARY
Thinkquest library has about 7000 websites created by students to study various topics under several subjects. These were all entries to the competitions held every year. But,I find them all extremely useful for any student under 19 years of age to study while having fun. Choose an educational category that you are interested in,and perhaps you could also team up and create a useful website for this year's competition.

HANDWRITING HELP FOR CHILDREN
Parents and teachers are concerned about children's handwriting.Yes,while they are learning to write, presents a different set of problems that can be corrected with proper guidance, oodles of patience, and practice sheets.Holding the pencil correctly, adjusting to the natural light, sitting properly at the desk holding the book at the right angle all make a difference in handwriting during formative years.Taking into account, the student who is a left hander, needs a different approach. There are several teachers who reprimand children for bad handwriting, but few make time for a student that needs more encouragement in the right direction.Practical advice to help improve your child's handwriting has an explicit video that shows what you can do as a parent or teacher to help children with bad handwriting.
Adults sometimes have illegible handwriting and need to improve themselves as well.
Here are some tips for you in my hub entitled,How To Improve My Handwriting

LISTEN TO YOUR HOMEWORK
Yes,listen to your notes or homework.Have it read to you as you commute or do something else.Text to speech is useful when you want to have someone read to you.Screen reading can be boring or you may not have enough time to log in.When students have loads to study and are tired of reading this can be of use. Many students take student loan and have to jugle between work and study. In between, they also have to commute great distances and this time can be better utilized for study if you have the notes with you. So,we can utilize ispeech.
This website supports most formats like MS Word,Excel,Powerpoint,PDF and more to convert it into audio. You can also share, embed or download it to your ipod. You can upload any document or URL to have it converted.Even special educators find this tool very useful. If you have a blog or website, you can add a link there after downloading. You can even let your readers choose to listen to your blog instead of reading it.It sure is useful for students and educators alike.

HOW TO MAKE AND SHARE FLASHCARDS ONLINE
Flashcards are a great way to keep a student's attention online, whether to learn vocabulary of a new language or any other subject, perhaps algebraic formulas.A website where you can create your own flashcards, save them, share them with your students/friends is recommended by a user. You may not only create your own but also find already existing ones made by other users in the flashcard library.Privacy settings allow you to share only with your class if you so desire. This website is FREE to use.Languages such as Spanish,German,French,Hindi,Mandarin and subjects such as History,Math,Algebra,Anatomy,Biology,Accountancy,Literature,....you name it,and it can be either found here or you can create your own.It is also useful in studying for such exams as SAT,GRE,GMAT.
Learners of all ages can first familiarize themselves and learn. Then they can take a quiz and scores will be presented. They can then race against the clock while taking the quiz.It is indeed an excellent tool for teachers to use for their students, and elearners to engage in selfstudy.

INDIAN BACHELOR'S DEGREE NOW RECOGNISED IN US
Indian students yearn for a postgraduate degree from the US.And hitherto the students had to qualify with 16 years of school education or they had to repeat the Bachelor's degree in the US before applying for the postgraguate study. Now,the rule has changed much to the relief of Indian students. The Bachelor's degree obtained in India,namely,B.A.,B.Sc.,B.Com are being recognised in par with the American degrees. So,students need not enroll in some educational program just to show that they have completed 16 years of education. Those who finish B.E.,M.B.B.S.in India did not have to worry as they already would have completed the mandatory 16 years of study.Though this is welcome for many Indian students,it remains to be seen as to how many will be able to get good jobs in their related field after studies in the US.Recession and uncertainity will make many students think twice.

PERIODIC TABLE REALLY EASY
Chemistry is interesting to students when they have a great teacher to explain. The periodic table in particular, always needs explicit explanation for a student to retain it in memory. Many students have written to me asking for easier ways of learning the periodic table, especially if they have missed the class. My earlier posts,The Periodic Table-More Ways To Learn and The Periodic Table are popular among the students and teachers.Videos made differently to suit each one,so take your pick and learn so as to be able to teach another. This strategy worked very well with my students. They learnt, but they become more perfect when they are given he chance to teach the rest of the class or another student that needs explanation. Here is a new video I found on teachertube.
