ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO BLOG IN A SECOND LANGUAGE

Students have to learn a second language in most countries as part of their school curriculum, and that includes Spanish, French, German, Japanese,Chinese,etc.. Indian school students need to learn both a second and a third language, such as English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, as part of their curriculum. And some opt for Foreign languages such as French and German when there is a choice. Learning a language other than their mothertongue can be difficult, especially the Grammar aspect. And some students master the language Grammar, but are not fluent in their speaking. Most students master the English language especially if it is the medium of instruction in their school. It is essential that students get good grades in their chosen language so as to maintain a healthy overall average of their subjects. Teachers and parents can encourage their children to create a blog in their chosen languages. Having a blog in English

HOW TO CREATE CONTENT IN INDIAN LANGUAGES WITH GOOGLE TRANSLATOR KIT

Google Indic Transliteration can be used for many Indian languages such as Hindi,Kannada,Telugu,Tamil,Malayalam where you type words as pronounced in the language of your choice in English and it gives you the writing in the desired language. It is not a perfect translation, since you have to type out in English as you speak in the desired language which can be cumbersome. You can even send emails this way now. Go to Settings in your Gmail account and under General heading enable transliteration in the desired Indian language. Now you can type and shoot an email in your mothertongue or send an assignment to your Kannada/Hindi teacher online.
The new Goggle Translator tool kit now simplifies the process and you can directly type your words in the language of your choice. You can also share it online with whoever you choose. And store as Translation Memory(TM).

HOW TO SEND HINDI OR KANNADA ASSIGNMENTS TO YOUR TEACHER ONLINE

Homework and essays written in the book used to be submitted for correction by the teacher. It is common knowledge that most assignments today are submitted online.Sometimes the student has to work in his/her group to complete a project. And of course,a deadline has to be met. When the language being used is English, there is no problem. But,when the chosen language happens to be an Indian language such as Kannada/Hindi/Telugu/Malayalam/Tamil,what does the student do?
Many of my students are in a dilemma when such a situation occurs. If you try to"copy and paste" the vernacular language onto a Word document or onto an email client,it does not copy. Many are frustrated by this attempt, because only the pictures selected get copied.
The best solution is to use the Google Indic Transliteration tool to write what you want in the language of your choice, and then, select all, copy and paste into new document on Google Docs, save it and share it with friends. You may invite your friends as collaborators so as to enable them to also edit the document online while on Chat in realtime and submit it to your teacher for approval. You can make your online project/assignment fetch you more marks by simply adding some relevant pictures or even an educational video from youtube or teachertube.Google Docs has these advantages and scores over a Microsoft Word document.
