VIDEO TUTORIALS FOR USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM

Professional development for teachers is essential as the classroom is evolving into a paperless classroom. Use of laptops, and PowerPoint presentations are not enough to quench the curiosity of the students anymore. Students themselves are adept at using several online tools and that teachers must make an effort to find newer ways of teaching and engage their students in challenging ways. Methods to create online projects with videos, podcasts, blogs are becoming increasingly popular among students of all age groups. But the teachers need to be up to the mark and learn to use innovative ways to enhance their teaching. Some schools offer professional development for their existing teachers but if you would like to learn at your own pace and use your own ideas, there are several teachers who have begun using the web 2.0 tools in their classroom for a couple of years or more -and with resounding success. Most of them have their own edublogs and classroom blogs, which are a wealth of information for any teacher wanting to learn to use the right tools for her or his classroom. Some are Google certified teachers and are adept at using all Google tools and social media with their students. You would do well to Follow some of these blogs on education and begin to use some of the tools in your own classroom. If you have a query, dropping an email to any of them or leaving a comment on their blogs will help them address your issue and you will find it a rewarding experience.
Mark Barnes' is a teacher who has some interesting video tutorials on the use of web 2.0 tools on his website, and he calls it," learn it in 5", meaning you learn to use a new tool in precisely 5 minutes.

K-12 Educational Video Library

Educational videos are an excellent source of engaging and sometimes interactive learning material. Some of the free virtual libraries available online include free video tutorials , teachertube , learning made fun , one stop homeworkhelp and visual learning .
Salman Khan of Khan Academy has created exceptional videos for k-12 education. Not restricted to any one syllabus, the virtual library is available to students from across the globe, 24x7, FREE. With just a computer and a pen-tablet-mouse, he has created over a 1000 videos which are being used by students who can understand subject topics from Math and Science. Interestingly presented in conversational style, this non profit organization is set to be every academically challenged student's best friend. These videos can be accessed @ the khanacademy channel on youtube or khanacademy.org.  Salman Khan and his website have been conferred with the 2009 Tech Award In Education. Below is a sample of his video on Binomial Theorem.

How To Create Educational Videos Using Screencastomatic

Educators are able to produce creative educational videos in a number of ways. Some like to tutor online. Some like to capture what they are teaching on their computer screens and upload it on youtube or save it as mp4 or a movie. Being able to share what one teaches on one's computer, with students from around the world , apart from one's classroom is a trend we see becoming more explosive. Of course, elearning takes place in real time and also with the sharing of videos available to a student on demand. In short, students have the option to choose, according to convenience, and many tutors have been making educational videos to bring the best to the student.
Being able to capture one's computer screen as one teaches, simultaneously adding audio is important in creating a truly inspirational educational video, one that is engaging and free from disturbances. Several software are available such as camtasia for this purpose, but a free basic version of Screen-O-Matic works just fine, if one is to restrict the video to 10-15 minutes. Being able to adjust the screen size and having the options to upload it directly to youtube makes this easy for any tutor wanting to create educational videos, without any fuss. All you need is an email id and there is nothing to install. And you are ready to create!

Video tutorials enhance learning as they engage the student in understanding better, and retain it in memory for longer as well. Whether it is a language session, science, math, environment,or self improvement,or just any subject under the sun, visual learning is truly useful for self study or guided by a teacher.Whatever the age,of the learner, these have been found useful.Even use of computer and the internet tools can be learnt through video tutorials.

Videos and interactives used to support learning at home and school are increasingly catching up. Students and parents are becoming increasingly aware of the possibilities of using their home computer and internet connection to the full. Children are often found playing games on the computer and chatting with friends and little else. A science project or a presentation for class is the only other time they willingly use the computer. A friend who emails answers for today's homework is most sought. Computer classes in schools follow outdated material for a syllabus. Even pre-schoolers have a great variety these days with regarding audio books, animated stories, animated rhymes, interactives, learning shapes, colours and of course, alphabets. These are being made in English,Hindi and Kannada languages and are available in various bookstores as DVD's and CD's. Some are of high quality and some are mediocre. But, all are finding takers. Some of these have found their way onto youtube. Most are copyrighted. One very interesting and truly engaging website that I found was www.jaasti.com/ which requires a FREE signup for you to view Free versions of all on their site itself.
