HOW TO BE A COMMITED PARENT?
Parents need to be good role models for their children.Children learn by watching and unconsciously imbibe several characteristics and habits from those around them.Time spent with parents these days is becoming lesser,so the quality of time spent together matters.Every home is unique and so are the children. After all, they are God's gift to us.
As your baby grows through the different stages of development, needs change,so parents have to adapt accordingly.Infancy, preschool, school, teens, college life, young adulthood bring their share of joys and sorrows to watch and later recall fond memories once the young adult flies away from your nest.

PHOTOGRAPHY IN EDUCATION
Photography can be used in learning.A picture speaks a thousand words.Schools have photography as a hobby subject to take up these days. And the takers are many.Special needs children and slow learners, beginners all need pictures for effective learning. All excellent presentations have photos or pictures or videos in them.New languages are learnt much faster when photos are used.Quite simply, visual learning or use of multimedia is far more interesting than "learning by rote" or only from the textbook.A teacher can get the attention of her students and keep it while teaching,if she uses visuals to support her lesson.
To be a photojournalist requires one to be a compelling story teller.A photo has to capture the emotion of the moment for it to be effective.Listen to a talk by Davis Griffin, the photo director of National Geographic, enumerating what is required of a photojournalist to connect with the world.Very very interesting, specially if you have a project covering subjects from environmental science,or geography. My 8 th grade student has to do a presentation on Project Tiger and he is making good use of his camera to get him excellent grades this term.

ROAD SAFETY FOR CHILDREN
Traffic jams are a common sight on Indian city roads, and road safety is a matter of great concern for all, particularly school and college students.Whatever mode of transport is adopted to get to their institution and back home, parents wait for the safe return of their wards every day.Depending on the proximity of school or college and the route involved, the approximate time taken can never be totally adhered to,most of the time.Often, parents have to call up on the child's cell phone to find out if he reached safely and on time,be it tuitions, coaching classes, friend's party,or the school.
Anxious parents and teachers at school would do well to educate their students about the do's and don'ts on Indian roads. Some schools encourage their children to take active part in helping to regulate traffic within the campus,on a rotation basis.

POWERPOINT IN THE CLASSROOM
Schools have adopted technological modes of teaching, and have been particularly successful in grading students according to their powerpoint presentations. These presentations are a hit with every student as it is a creative aspect of the student being focused upon.It also aids faster learning. All subjects can be taught using ppt. Some teachers emphasize their topic's,"Points to remember" at the end of every chapter through a ppt. My 8 th grade student had to submit a ppt on a topic of common interest for an English class.Guidelines were given 10 days in advance and he had to submit this as a project and once approved by the teacher,he would be assessed for the presentation in class. His friends get to ask him questions and his presentation skills are enhanced.
